Therapy

Therapy is supported by cognitive behavioral principles that undergird a movement toward peaceful mindful recognitions of self, the environment, and the future. The client is an active partner in their progression toward mental wellness. Once a treatment decision has been implemented the client’s movement toward mental wellness drives the need for adjustments.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is based on the principle that thoughts influence feeling, feelings influence actions, and actions influence our results. Consequently it is not the event that drives the feelings but the thoughts about the event. Making a change in your thoughts about an event or situation will change feelings, actions, and results. See below for an illustration of the cognitive behavioral model.

Some common diagnosis treated by medication and/or therapy are:

Anxiety Disorders -

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity -

Autism -

Bipolar -

Depression -

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder-

Parent-Child/Infant Relationships -

Personality Disorders-

Post Traumatic Stress -

Post Partum Depression -

Research shows that therapy alone can help to manage mental illness. However, when medication is added the recovery from mental illness occurs at a faster pace. Due to the intensity of symptoms some individuals require medication treatment before they can engage in therapy.

Working with a psychiatric professional can help you in making the decision regarding treatment. Feel free to contact us for an evaluation and assistance in choosing a treatment.
